Iberian lynx
Practically extinct in Portugal by 2005, the Iberian lynx has been successfully reintroduced in both Spain and Portugal, with key rewilding sites in Serpa and Tavira.
Since then, the population has steadily grown. Today, it’s estimated that around 300 lynxes roam free in the Alentejo region. As a territorial feline, several have already been spotted outside protected areas—including five sighted near Melides in 2025.
At Salvador, we are actively working with national authorities to protect the Iberian lynx along the Alentejo coast.
And you can help us.
