Santa Marinha, Melides

Concrete actions

Since 2018, SALVADOR has been actively compiling and analyzing all available information related to Santa Marinha, a significant historical structure in the region. This ongoing effort aims to build a comprehensive understanding of the site's condition, historical relevance, and restoration potential.
In 2024, a 3D survey of the building was conducted using drone technology. This model has provided valuable insights into the current state of preservation, the structural integrity of the site, and any potential risks or vulnerabilities that may affect future restoration efforts.
SALVADOR is currently engaged in dialogue with the property owners of the church, as well as with relevant public institutions, including the Freguesia of Melides, the Municipality of Grândola, and the Diocese of Beja. The goal is to reach a shared strategy for the restoration and revitalization of Santa Marinha.
The ultimate objective is to bring this important heritage site back to life — not only as an architectural landmark, but as an accessible public space that contributes to the cultural and social fabric of the community.
