Concrete actions

  • We have already identified an old and authentic loom in Val Figueira.
Renovation work is expected to begin in fall 2025.
  • We have reached an agreement with the management of the Casa do Povo in Melides to install the loom there, so that our elderly community members can use it.
  • We are actively looking for someone in Melides who can teach others how to operate it.
If we are unable to find someone locally, three individuals in Alentejo have already been identified as potential instructors.
  • Eighty kilos of pure, virgin, locally sourced wool have already been purchased.
  • We have also found authentic old spinning wheels and hand-held tools such as spindles and whorls.
These items will be transported to a carpentry workshop (located below ImoMelides), where they will be restored with the help of local, experienced carpenters before 2026.-
