Apiculture
Concrete actions
In 2025, SALVADOR initiated a comprehensive audit aimed at establishing a clear and data-driven understanding of the current state of beekeeping in the Melides region and surrounding areas, with a focus on zones such as São Francisco da Serra and Vale Vigueira.
This audit involves conducting structured interviews and field assessments with all active apiculturists in the region. The objective is to map existing practices, assess operational capacity, and identify key constraints and development opportunities within the sector.
Areas of analysis include:
- Hive density and distribution
- Production volumes and yields
- Environmental and climatic challenges
- Access to markets and infrastructure
- Sanitary and ecological risk factors
The final report, scheduled for release by the end of 2025, will present the main findings along with strategic recommendations for future action. These will aim to support both sustainability and economic viability of beekeeping in the region — identifying where targeted interventions can produce the greatest positive impact.
To support communication and stakeholder engagement, the project will also include the production of a short documentary-style video. This visual component will serve to summarize the findings, raise awareness, and invite potential partners and collaborators to engage with the initiative.
This effort represents a first step toward building a more structured and informed approach to apiculture in Melides, as part of a broader strategy for rural development and biodiversity resilience.
